Biography
Gabriele Cecconi is an Italian documentary photographer, journalist, and educator. He came to photography after earning a degree in law and, in 2015, was selected by Camera Torino and Leica for a masterclass with Magnum photographer Alex Webb. Since then, he has produced various photo reportages until 2018, when he began focusing on long-term projects. His work on the environmental impact of the Rohingya migration in southern Bangladesh has received numerous international accolades, including the Yves Rocher Photography Award at Visa pour l’Image, POY, the Andrei Stenin Grand Prix, PX3 Photographer of the Year, and the LUMIX Sustainability Award. His projects have been exhibited internationally in museums, festivals, and galleries, including the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the United Nations headquarters, the Photo Vogue Festival, the Festival della Fotografia Etica, and the Fotofestiwal in Łódź. His work has also been widely published in both Italian and inter- national outlets, including National Geographic, Geo, Der Spiegel, Internazionale, L’Espresso, Newsweek, Courrier International, GUP, and Fisheye Magazine. He teaches photography and visual communication at NID Academy in Perugia, has lectured at the Mexican photography school F64, and has conducted training programs for the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO) of the United Nations. He regularly engages in international awareness and visual education initiatives. Gabriele also conducts research on the relationship between culture, power, and representation, as well as on the spiritual and pedagogical dimensions of the visual arts.
